Lots of people have been sharing with me how they are prioritizing their wellness routines and trying to shed excess holiday pounds that crept on at the end of 2018.
Many are surprised when I reflect that nearly everyone struggles sometimes with extra weight or feeling out of control with their eating habits---yes, this blog writer. A big factor is that our environments are always conspiring against us; we must fight the lure to overeat and indulge in unhealthy foods like one pulls tight on the reins of a horse.
I'm not preaching perfection here, but moderation and balance. The riders who don't drop the reins but tighten their grip and pull back are the ones who don't topple over. They don't allow a 3 to 5 pounds weight gain to quietly turn into ten pounds or more.
With our health habits, we can't ever 'let go' of the reins. When we become regular proactive caretakers of our health, it simply becomes less of a 'chore' and more second nature. As you see the rewards of your efforts compound, the effort seems less like effort at all. It's when we aren't prioritizing our health that we get into trouble with it.
Whatever accountability systems you use with your health and weight (e.g. a scale, tape measure, a favorite pair of jeans, etc.), keep it near and pull back on those reins when signs tell you it's time.
To your good health!
