Intention is everything when it comes to maintaining positive health routines. Here's a snapshot of the difference between a 'default' way of being and one based in positive intentions:
For enjoying a holiday party
Arrive hungry, overeat sweets, drink one too many. Have a sugar hangover plus regrets the next day.
Eat a healthy snack prior, set a reasonable limit in advance for sweets and alcohol, enjoy conversation and healthier food choices with no regrets the next day.
For being active
Join a gym, but fail to build a habit for going regularly. Mostly just get exercise by walking your dog.
Make plans with a friend for weekly recurring walks. Schedule gym time on your calendar like you would a doctor's appointment.
For reducing stress
Figure you'll contain your stress through exercise and try to limit screen time at night.
Set a nightly alarm as a reminder to power-down. Build a consistent morning centering routine of stretching and deep breathing while enjoying your morning coffee.
